Flixster’s essential Movie iPhone App just got better

by Scott Hoffman on September 9, 2009

The Flixster movie app (link to App Store) was already ranked as one of my top 10 most essential iPhone apps, back in June. Not resting on their laurels, on August 28th, the Flixster team released their new version 3.0 of their iPhone app. It was a significant update, that made the already feature rich Movie app even more essential. (and best yet, it is absolutely free!)

Along side the great features that the product already had including, viewing current box office, watching high quality trailers, reading peer and professional reviews and ratings of movies, movie search, and most importantly for me, finding local show times at nearby theaters.

The most notable improvements within the 3.0 version include:

Netflix Support which allows you to add movies to your queue, view and manage your queue which includes deleting and reordering. It even supports the instant playlist, so now you can use it as a hack to get instant movies into your queue on the XBOX 360 Netflix application. The lack of support of queue management has been a major complaint as profiled by enGadget.

Yelp integration (a Top 10 most essential Apps for the iPhone) which allows for you to find resturant nearby the theater.

iTunes Movie Store integration that allows you to buy or rent movies that you find.

This app just keeps getting better and better. Hat tip to the team at Flixtser.

Disclaimer: I am already a fan of Flixster, and the Flixtser iPhone app. As mentioned above the Flixster Movie App made my Top Ten most essential iPhone apps list . I have also interviewed Steve Polsky, the COO of Flixtser on my old radio show, The Online Media Remix. Go ahead an take a listen.
